In America, when a lady’s time comes, she runs to the bathroom and grabs some tampons. In most of Africa, girls can’t do that. There is no stash of tampons. There are only a few options with this monthly problem. They either miss school choosing to sit on the ground and wait their period out. (This usually results in way too many classes being missed over the period of years )
They ask to borrow money and get abused. (Many times resulting in rape and pregnancy.) Or they use old dirty rags or leaves or anything as a substitute. (This breeds infection.) Or they sell their body to buy feminine products. (This can end up in a pregnancy or a lifestyle of prostitution.).
But there is another alternative. At UnveilinGLORY we are hoping to generate monthly partners who will help young girls stay protected during their monthly cycle and remain in school. This is done by having local women sew reusable feminine pads. Once these are sewn, they are handed out to girls for free! And they last for five years!!!! Those who sew gets jobs. The girls get free pads and stay in school. It’s a win-win scenario!
By pledging $50 a month, you will be saving 20 girls every month and helping a woman maintain a job. Our goal is to see 500 pledges made (averaging $50/month). This would result in seeing 120,000 girls saved from devastation to a life of dignity. Would you please pray about this and pass this site on to others? I would greatly appreciate it. Debby Sjogren
